Rome is known as the Eternal City and an auspicious beginning for a lifetime together.
It is a treasure trove of history, art, and architecture. Rome is always fascinating which makes it an inviting destination for weddings all year round. The weather is temperate and usually mild and sunny. There are four seasons and the summer months are usually hot and humid. January and February are chilly, but all other months of the year are sublime. The Romans have a special word to describe the mild, sunny October climate, the Ottobrata Romana, and it is my favorite month of the year. Depending on the circumstances of your wedding, we can help advise you on when would be the best time of year for a wedding in Rome.

There are logistical advantages to a wedding in Rome. It is the most convenient city in Italy for a destination wedding. There are international flights from everywhere in the world to Rome including many direct flights.
Being a large city, there are a wealth of things to do and places to stay in all budget ranges. Your guests will have the maximum amount of independence with a wedding in Rome. When not attending any planned events, they can be off to explore the city on their own. Be sure to schedule enough free time for them to do so.
For lodging, I recommend selecting an area of Rome, such as the Spanish Steps, and suggesting that everyone stay in that area. You may want to let them know which hotel you will be staying at and invite anyone to stay there, too. All others who prefer more or less expensive accommodations can choose the type and price that best suits them while still being within a short walking distance from you and the rest of the guests.

All types of ceremonies are possible in Rome and, aside from civil and Catholic weddings, can usually be held anywhere your heart desires.
Rome and the Vatican are the seat of Roman Catholicism and the Catholic churches here have no rivals in quantity and majesty. Rome, alone, boasts over 800 churches in all sizes and architectural styles. In Italy, all Catholic weddings must take place inside of a church. Priests are not allowed to celebrate a Catholic wedding in a garden, in the countryside, or in any location that is not a consecrated Catholic church.

Civil Ceremonies must take place at the designated civil halls in most towns in Italy with few exceptions. In Rome there are no exceptions and two locations have been dedicated to civil ceremonies. Every day except Tuesday, civil ceremonies in Rome are celebrated at the Complesso Vignola Mattei. This edifice was an Ancient Roman house that was converted into a church in the earliest days of Christianity and then de-consecrated centuries later. Now it belongs to the city of Rome and is situated in a wooded area in the center of Rome. The building is spartan and appears austere, but it is an ancient, authentic structure and I find it very charming in person.
On weekends there is the additional option of a civil ceremony in the “Sala Rossa” (the red room). It is located in Campidoglio which contains the City Hall of Rome. It is in an intimate piazza designed by Michelangelo and dating back to the Renaissance.
